My Soul Thirsts for You

A Psalm of David, 63:0 [2 Sam. 16:14; 17:2, 29]when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

1O God, you are my God; 63:1 Ps. 78:34; Isa. 26:9earnestly I seek you;

63:1 See Ps. 84:2my soul thirsts for you;

my flesh faints for you,

as in 63:1 Ps. 143:6; Isa. 32:2a dry and weary land where there is no water.

2So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,

beholding 63:2 Ps. 78:61; [Ps. 27:4]your power and glory.

3Because your 63:3 [Ps. 69:16]steadfast love is better than life,

my lips will praise you.

4So I will bless you 63:4 Ps. 104:33; 146:2as long as I live;

in your 63:4 Ps. 20:1, 5name I will 63:4 See Ps. 28:2lift up my hands.

5My soul will be 63:5 See Ps. 36:8satisfied as with fat and rich food,

and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,

6when I remember you 63:6 See Ps. 42:8upon my bed,

and meditate on you in 63:6 See Ps. 42:8the watches of the night;

7for you have been my help,

and in 63:7 See Ps. 17:8the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.

8My soul 63:8 [Num. 14:24] clings to you;

your right hand 63:8 See Ps. 41:12upholds me.

9But those who seek to destroy my life

63:9 Ps. 9:17; 55:15shall go down into 63:9 Ezek. 26:20; 31:14; Eph. 4:9the depths of the earth;

10they shall be given over to the power of the sword;

they shall be a portion for jackals.

11But 63:11 Ps. 61:6the king shall rejoice in God;

all who 63:11 Deut. 6:13; Isa. 45:23; 65:16swear by him shall exult,

63:11 Ps. 107:42; Job 5:16; [Rom. 3:19] for the mouths of 63:11 [Ps. 38:12; 41:5-8]liars will be stopped.
