Lead Me in Your Righteousness
To the choirmaster: for the flutes. A Psalm of David.

1Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my 5:1 [Ps. 39:3]groaning.
2Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my 5:2 Ps. 84:3King and my God,
for 5:2 Ps. 65:2to you do I pray.
3O Lord, in 5:3 Ps. 88:13; 119:147; 130:6the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you5:3 Or I direct my prayer to you and 5:3 [Hab. 2:1]watch.

4For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.
5The 5:5 Ps. 73:3; 75:4; [Hab. 1:13] boastful shall not 5:5 See Ps. 1:5stand before your eyes;
you 5:5 Ps. 11:5hate all evildoers.
6You destroy those who speak 5:6 [Ps. 4:2]; Rev. 21:8; 22:15lies;
the Lord abhors 5:6 Ps. 55:23the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

7But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house.
I will 5:7 Ps. 132:7bow down 5:7 1 Kgs. 8:29, 30toward your 5:7 Ps. 11:4; 79:1holy temple
in the fear of you.
85:8 [Ps. 23:3; 25:4, 5] Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
because of my enemies;
5:8 [Ezra 8:21]make your way straight before me.

9For there is no truth in their mouth;
their inmost self is 5:9 Ps. 52:2destruction;
5:9 Cited Rom. 3:13their throat is 5:9 Jer. 5:16an open grave;
they 5:9 Ps. 12:2; Prov. 2:16; 7:5flatter with their tongue.
105:10 [Isa. 24:6] Make them bear their guilt, O God;
let them 5:10 [2 Sam. 15:31; 17:14, 23]fall by their own counsels;
because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,
for they have rebelled against you.

11But let all who 5:11 Ps. 2:12take refuge in you 5:11 Ps. 33:21rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may 5:11 [Ps. 9:2; 1 Sam. 2:1]exult in you.
12For you 5:12 Ps. 115:13bless the righteous, O Lord;
you 5:12 [Ps. 103:4] cover him with favor as with 5:12 [Ps. 35:2]a shield.
