The King Rejoices in the Lord’s Strength

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1O Lord, in your 21:1 Ps. 8:2; 28:7, 8strength the king rejoices,

and in your 21:1 Ps. 9:14salvation how greatly he exults!

2You have 21:2 Ps. 20:4, 5given him his heart’s desire

and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah

3For you 21:3 Ps. 59:10meet him with rich blessings;

you set 21:3 [2 Sam. 12:30; 1 Chr. 20:2] a crown of 21:3 Ps. 19:10fine gold upon his head.

4He asked life of you; you 21:4 Ps. 61:6; [2 Sam. 7:19] gave it to him,

21:4 Ps. 91:16; [1 Kgs. 1:31; Neh. 2:3]length of days forever and ever.

5His 21:5 Ps. 8:5glory is great through your salvation;

21:5 Ps. 45:3; 96:6splendor and majesty you bestow on him.

6For you make him most blessed forever;21:6 Or make him a source of blessing forever

you make him glad with the 21:6 Ps. 45:7; See Ps. 16:11joy of your presence.

7For the king trusts in the Lord,

and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be 21:7 Ps. 10:6; 16:8moved.

8Your hand will 21:8 [Isa. 10:10]find out all your enemies;

your right hand will find out those who hate you.

9You will make them as 21:9 Mal. 4:1; [Ps. 83:14] a blazing oven

when you appear.

The Lord will swallow them up in his 21:9 Ps. 2:5wrath,

and 21:9 Ps. 18:8; 50:3; 97:3; Isa. 26:11; [Job 20:26; Dan. 7:10; Hab. 3:5]fire will consume them.

10You 21:10 Ps. 34:16; 1 Kgs. 13:34will destroy their 21:10 Ps. 37:28; 109:13; Job 18:16, 17, 19; Isa. 14:20descendants from the earth,

and their offspring from among the children of man.

11Though they plan evil against you,

though they 21:11 Ps. 2:1; 10:2devise mischief, they will not succeed.

12For you will put them 21:12 Ps. 18:40to flight;

you will 21:12 Ps. 7:12; 11:2aim at their faces with your bows.

13Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength!

We will sing and praise your power.
