Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1O Lord, you have 139:1 Jer. 12:3; See Ps. 7:9; 17:3; 44:21searched me and known me!

2You 139:2 2 Kgs. 19:27; Lam. 3:63know when I sit down and when I rise up;

you 139:2 [Job 14:16; 31:4; Matt. 9:4; John 2:24, 25]discern my thoughts from afar.

3You search out my path and my lying down

and are acquainted with all my ways.

4Even before a word is on my tongue,

behold, O Lord, 139:4 Heb. 4:13you know it altogether.

5You 139:5 Job 19:8hem me in, behind and before,

and 139:5 Job 9:33lay your hand upon me.

6139:6 Rom. 11:33Such knowledge is 139:6 Job 42:3too wonderful for me;

it is high; I cannot attain it.

Or where 139:7 Jonah 1:3shall I flee from your presence?

9If I take the wings of the morning

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

and the light about me be night,”

for darkness is as light with you.

when I was being made in secret,

16Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

17How precious to me are your 139:17 Ps. 92:5thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

18139:18 Ps. 40:5If I would count them, they are more than 139:18 Gen. 22:17the sand.

I awake, and I am still with you.

19Oh that you would 139:19 Isa. 11:4; [Ps. 9:17] slay the wicked, O God!

22I hate them with complete hatred;

I count them my enemies.

23Search me, O God, and know my heart!
