Nehemiah 第13章
Nehemiah’s Final Reforms
1On that day 13:1 ch. 8:3, 8, 9, 18; 9:3; [Deut. 31:11, 12; 2 Kgs. 23:2] they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And in it was found written 13:1 See Deut. 23:3-5that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,
2for they did not meet the people of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them—yet our God turned the curse into a blessing.
4Now before this, 13:4 ver. 28; ch. 3:1Eliashib the priest, who 13:4 [ch. 12:44] was appointed over the chambers of the house of our God, and who was related to 13:4 ch. 2:10Tobiah,
5prepared for Tobiah a large chamber where they had previously put the grain offering, the frankincense, the vessels, and the tithes of grain, wine, and oil, 13:5 Num. 18:21, 24which were given by commandment to the Levites, singers, and gatekeepers, and the contributions for the priests.
6While this was taking place, I was not in Jerusalem, for 13:6 ch. 5:14in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes 13:6 Ezra 6:22king of Babylon I went to the king. And after some time I asked leave of the king
7and came to Jerusalem, and I then discovered the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, 13:7 ver. 5preparing for him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
8And I was very angry, and I threw all the household furniture of Tobiah out of the chamber.
9Then I gave orders, and they 13:9 2 Chr. 29:15, 16, 18cleansed the chambers, and I brought back there the vessels of the house of God, with the grain offering and the frankincense.
10I also found out that 13:10 2 Chr. 31:4; [Mal. 3:8] the portions of the Levites had not been given to them, so that the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had fled each 13:10 ch. 12:28, 29to his field.
1113:11 ver. 17, 25So I confronted the officials and said, 13:11 [ch. 10:39]“Why is the house of God forsaken?” And I gathered them together and set them in their stations.
12Then all Judah brought 13:12 [ch. 10:38, 39; 12:44]the tithe of the grain, wine, and oil into the storehouses.
13And 13:13 [2 Chr. 31:12, 13] I appointed as treasurers over the storehouses Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, and as their assistant Hanan the son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, 13:13 ch. 7:2; [1 Cor. 4:2]for they were considered reliable, and their duty was to distribute to their brothers.
15In those days I saw in Judah people treading winepresses 13:15 [Ex. 20:10] on the Sabbath, and bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys, and also wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of loads, 13:15 See ch. 10:31which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And 13:15 ver. 21I warned them on the day when they sold food.
16Tyrians also, who lived in the city, brought in fish and all kinds of goods and sold them on the Sabbath to the people of Judah, in Jerusalem itself!
1713:17 ver. 11Then I confronted the nobles of Judah and said to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, 13:17 [Matt. 12:5]profaning the Sabbath day?
1813:18 See Jer. 17:19-23Did not your fathers act in this way, and did not our God bring all this disaster13:18 The Hebrew word can mean evil, harm, or disaster, depending on the context on us and on this city? Now you are bringing more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”
19As soon as it 13:19 Lev. 23:32began to grow dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut and gave orders that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. And I stationed some of my servants at the gates, that no load might be brought in on the Sabbath day.
20Then the merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside Jerusalem once or twice.
23In those days also I saw the Jews 13:23 Ezra 9:2; 10:10who had married women 13:23 [ch. 4:7] of Ashdod, 13:23 [ver. 1; Ezra 9:1]Ammon, and 13:23 [ver. 1; Ezra 9:1]Moab.
24And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but only the language of each people.
2513:25 [See ver. 17above] And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. 13:25 Ezra 10:5; [ch. 10:29, 30]And I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.
2613:26 See 1 Kgs. 11:1-8Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of such women? 13:26 1 Kgs. 3:13; 2 Chr. 1:12Among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was 13:26 [2 Sam. 12:24]beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women made even him to sin.
3013:30 ch. 10:30Thus I cleansed them from everything foreign, and I established the duties of the priests and Levites, each in his work;
31and I provided 13:31 ch. 10:34for the wood offering 13:31 Ezra 10:14at appointed times, and for the firstfruits.
13:31 ver. 14, 22Remember me, O my God, for good.
