Luke 第16章
The Parable of the Dishonest Manager
1He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had 16:1 ch. 12:42a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions.
2And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your 16:2 See 1 Cor. 9:17management, for you can no longer be manager.’
3And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.
4I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’
5So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
6He said, ‘A hundred measures16:6 About 875 gallons or 3,200 litersof oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’
7Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures16:7 Between 1,000 and 1,200 bushels or 37,000 to 45,000 litersof wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’
8The master commended the dishonest manager for his 16:8 See Matt. 25:2shrewdness. For 16:8 ch. 20:34; See ch. 10:6the sons of this world16:8 Greek ageare 16:8 See Matt. 25:2more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than 16:8 John 12:36; 1 Thess. 5:5; [Eph. 5:8]the sons of light.
9And I tell you, 16:9 [ch. 12:33; Matt. 6:20; 19:21; 1 Tim. 6:10, 17-19] make friends for yourselves by means of 16:9 ver. 11, 13; Matt. 6:24unrighteous wealth,16:9 Greek mammon, a Semitic word for money or possessions; also verse 11; rendered money in verse 13so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.
1016:10 Matt. 25:21, 23“One who is 16:10 ch. 19:17faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
11If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?
12And if you have not been faithful in 16:12 [1 Chr. 29:14, 16]that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?
The Law and the Kingdom of God
1416:14 [ch. 11:39; 20:47] The Pharisees, who were 16:14 2 Tim. 3:2; [1 Tim. 6:10] lovers of money, heard all these things, and they 16:14 ch. 23:35ridiculed him.
15And he said to them, “You are those who 16:15 ch. 10:29justify yourselves before men, but 16:15 1 Sam. 16:7; 1 Chr. 28:9; Prov. 21:2God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men 16:15 Prov. 16:5is an abomination in the sight of God.
1616:16 Matt. 11:12, 13“The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then 16:16 See ch. 4:43the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and 16:16 [ch. 15:1]everyone forces his way into it.16:16 Or everyone is forcefully urged into it
17But 16:17 Matt. 5:18it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.
Divorce and Remarriage
1816:18 See Matt. 5:32“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.
The Rich Man and Lazarus
19“There was a rich man who was clothed in 16:19 Esth. 8:15; Rev. 18:16purple and fine linen and 16:19 [James 5:5]who feasted sumptuously every day.
21who desired to be fed with 16:21 [Matt. 15:27]what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22The poor man died and was carried by 16:22 ch. 15:10; Matt. 18:10; Acts 12:15; Heb. 1:13, 14; See ch. 12:8the angels 16:22 [John 13:23 (Gk.)]to Abraham’s side.16:22 Greek bosom; also verse 23The rich man also died and was buried,
23and in 16:23 See Matt. 11:23Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and 16:23 Matt. 8:11, 12saw Abraham far off and Lazarus 16:23 [See ver. 22above]at his side.
24And he called out, 16:24 ver. 30; John 8:33, 39, 53‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and 16:24 [Zech. 14:12] cool my tongue, for 16:24 [Isa. 66:24]; See Matt. 25:41I am in anguish in this flame.’
25But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that 16:25 [ch. 6:24; Job 21:13; Ps. 17:14]you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.
26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’
27And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house—
28for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’
29But Abraham said, ‘They have 16:29 ver. 31; ch. 24:27; Acts 26:22; 28:23Moses and the Prophets; 16:29 [John 5:45-47]let them hear them.’
30And he said, ‘No, 16:30 ver. 24father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’
31He said to him, ‘If they do not hear 16:31 [See ver. 29above] Moses and the Prophets, 16:31 [Matt. 28:11-15; John 12:10, 11]neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”
