Message to Baruch

1The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to 45:1 See ch. 32:12Baruch the son of Neriah, 45:1 See ch. 36:4, 18when he wrote these words in a book at the dictation of Jeremiah, 45:1 ch. 36:1in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

2“Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch:

3You said, 45:3 [ch. 36:26] ‘Woe is me! For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain. 45:3 Ps. 6:6I am weary with my groaning, 45:3 Lam. 1:3; 5:5and I find no rest.’

4Thus shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord: 45:4 ch. 31:28; [Isa. 5:5]Behold, what I have built I am breaking down, and what I have planted I am plucking up—that is, the whole land.

5And 45:5 [Ps. 131:1, 2; Rom. 12:16] do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not, for behold, 45:5 [ch. 25:26, 29] I am bringing disaster upon all flesh, declares the Lord. But I will give you 45:5 ch. 21:9; 39:18your life as a prize of war in all places to which you may go.”
