Final Warnings

113:1 See ch. 12:14This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established 13:1 Cited from Deut. 19:15; See Num. 35:30by the evidence of two or three witnesses.

213:2 ch. 10:2I warned 13:2 ch. 12:21those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that 13:2 ver. 10; See 1 Cor. 4:21if I come again I will not spare them—

3since you seek proof that Christ 13:3 See Matt. 10:20; 1 Cor. 5:4is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but 13:3 ch. 10:4is powerful among you.

4For 13:4 [Phil. 2:7, 8; 1 Pet. 3:18] he was crucified in weakness, but 13:4 See Rom. 1:4; 6:4lives by the power of God. For 13:4 [ch. 12:10] we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you 13:4 See Rom. 6:8we will live with him by the power of God.

5Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. 13:5 [1 Cor. 11:28; Gal. 6:4] Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that 13:5 Rom. 8:10; Gal. 4:19Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

6I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test.

7But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.

8For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

9For we are glad when 13:9 1 Cor. 4:10; [ch. 4:12; 12:5, 9, 10] we are weak and you are strong. Your 13:9 Eph. 4:12; 1 Thess. 3:10; [ver. 11]restoration is what we pray for.

10For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come 13:10 [ch. 2:3] I may not have to be 13:10 Titus 1:13severe in my use of 13:10 ch. 10:8the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.
