法老吩咐他的众民说：“以色列人所生的男孩，你们都要丢在河里；一切的女孩，你们要存留她的性命。”

那时，摩西生下来，俊美非凡，在他父亲家里抚养了三个月。

那女人怀孕，生一个儿子，见他俊美，就藏了他三个月，后来不能再藏，就取了一个蒲草箱，抹上石漆和石油，将孩子放在里头，把箱子搁在河边的芦荻中。孩子的姐姐远远站着，要知道他究竟怎么样。法老的女儿来到河边洗澡，她的使女们在河边行走。她看见箱子在芦荻中，就打发一个婢女拿来。她打开箱子，看见那孩子。孩子哭了，她就可怜他，说：“这是希伯来人的一个孩子。”孩子的姐姐对法老的女儿说：“我去在希伯来妇人中叫一个奶妈来，为你奶这孩子，可以不可以？”法老的女儿说：“可以。”童女就去叫了孩子的母亲来。法老的女儿对她说：“你把这孩子抱去，为我奶他，我必给你工价。”妇人就抱了孩子去奶他。孩子渐长，妇人把他带到法老的女儿那里，就作了她的儿子。她给孩子起名叫摩西，意思说：“因我把他从水里拉出来。”

“我的朋友，我对你们说，那杀身体以后不能再做什么的，不要怕他们。我要指示你们当怕的是谁：当怕那杀了以后又有权柄丢在地狱里的。我实在告诉你们，正要怕他。

“你这虫雅各和你们以色列人，不要害怕！耶和华说：我必帮助你。你的救赎主就是以色列的圣者。

那杀身体、不能杀灵魂的，不要怕他们；惟有能把身体和灵魂都灭在地狱里的，正要怕他。

有耶和华帮助我，我必不惧怕，人能把我怎么样呢？

所以我们可以放胆说：“主是帮助我的，我必不惧怕；人能把我怎么样呢？”

你不要害怕，因为我与你同在；不要惊惶，因为我是你的神。我必坚固你，我必帮助你；我必用我公义的右手扶持你。

沙得拉、米煞、亚伯尼歌对王说：“尼布甲尼撒啊，这件事我们不必回答你，即便如此，我们所侍奉的神能将我们从烈火的窑中救出来。王啊，他也必救我们脱离你的手；即或不然，王啊，你当知道我们决不侍奉你的神，也不敬拜你所立的金像。”

但以理知道这禁令盖了玉玺，就到自己家里（他楼上的窗户开向耶路撒冷），一日三次，双膝跪在他神面前，祷告感谢，与素常一样。

“惟有我，是安慰你们的。你是谁？竟怕那必死的人，怕那要变如草的世人，

我倚靠神，我要赞美他的话；我倚靠神，必不惧怕。血气之辈能把我怎么样呢？

“知道公义、将我训诲存在心中的民，要听我言！不要怕人的辱骂，也不要因人的毁谤惊惶。

“这百姓说同谋背叛，你们不要说同谋背叛。他们所怕的，你们不要怕，也不要畏惧。但要尊万军之耶和华为圣，以他为你们所当怕的，所当畏惧的。
